Vaikath Brothers

Vaikath Brothers was started in 1946 and has been manufacturing and marketing coir and its products in India and abroad. The firm has specialized in manufacture of coir rope used for growing of mussels and is a exporter of the rope to Europe. The firm runs a fully mechanized coir rope making factory situated in Alleppey (now called Alappuzha) in Kerala in India. Alleppey was once famous for its coir exports is now also world famous for its backwater tourism and the House Boat trips in the back waters.

Coir rope is made from coir fiber extracted from the outer covering of the coconut. The fiber these days are all extracted by machines. The coir fiber is relatively waterproof and is one of the few natural fibers resistant to damage by salt water. It is biodegradable. The coir fiber is twisted to 2 ply coir yarn either by automatic machine or by hand. Several yarns are twisted to form a strand and 3 or 4 strands are twisted to form the coir rope. The thickness and the number of yarns used in the strand of a rope will depend on the diameter of the rope you require.
